The cosiest of seasons is almost upon us, so with that in mind, I thought I’d do a series of posts on how I like to style my home for Autumn. I love the inviting, warm glow that pillar candles can create in a room, but with a grabby-handed toddler whirling about the house, it was time to reach for the battery candles!
I was kindly sent a collection of pillar candles from the lovely people at Festive Lights to review. I bought a set of festoon lights and outdoor fairy lights from them and they are brilliant quality, so I was excited to test them out.
In the past, I’ve been a bit disappointed by battery candles, as they haven’t looked realistic enough. So when I opened up the packaging, I was really pleased to see that they are coated in wax, complete with drips down the side. When the candles are switched on, they gently flicker, which makes them look really authentic.
So, on to the styling! Find a corner of your home that you would like to cosy up and let’s get cracking!
- Odd numbers of candles work best when styling little vignettes, so group three or five candles of varying heights for a flowing and effect.
- Position the flames of your battery candles so that they face different directions, this will avoid the flames from pointing in the same way, so they will look even more authentic when turned on.
- Avoid straight lines and create triangles with items or overlap them instead – it helps to move around and look at your scene from different angles, to see if anything needs to be tweaked.
- Create interest, texture and depth by tucking seasonal greenery, Autumn leaves, berries, pinecones and woody herbs, such as rosemary, in and around the candles. This will soften the lines of the candles and create a feeling of cosy abundance.
